Content of Telehandler training

Everything you need to know to begin your new career

Components

Can you identify and explain the main components of the telehandler, such as the boom and stabilizers, and describe how the controls function? Understanding the purpose of each part and the terminology used is key to operating the machine effectively.

Checks

Are you able to perform pre-start and running checks in line with the manufacturer’s manual? Can you ensure compliance with relevant safety regulations and legislation? These checks help maintain equipment performance and safety on-site.

Configuration

Can you configure the telehandler for both on-site operations and highway travel? This involves adjusting the machine to suit different working environments and ensuring it meets the necessary conditions for safe travel.

Travel

Are you capable of driving the telehandler forward and in reverse, through tight spaces, and on different terrains like level ground, inclines, and rough surfaces? Can you manage these tasks both with and without loads, including handling hill starts?

Lifting

Can you safely set up the telehandler to lift a variety of loads within its working range, secure them for transport, and ensure load stability? Proper handling and positioning of loads are crucial for maintaining operational safety.

Placing

Can you place and retrieve loads accurately on structures like towers or vehicle beds while keeping within the telehandler's safe working limits? Precision is essential for ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

Shutdown

Are you familiar with the proper shutdown and securing procedures for the telehandler? Ensuring the machine is safely powered down and secured is vital for preventing accidents and maintaining the equipment.

Transport

Can you explain the correct process for loading and unloading the telehandler during transport? Following proper procedures helps to avoid damage and ensures the machine is safely moved between sites.

  • How much does it cost?
The Telehandler 5-day CPCS course costs £1,599.
  • Will you help me get a job?
Yes, we recommend signing up for our Employment Boot Camp, which is designed to help you get into work as soon as possible. This means we will work with you directly. We can connect you with recruitment companies via our database and, in some cases, arrange interviews with companies we know are hiring.
  • Is it easy to get a job?
The UK Construction industry is growing and there is a lot of demand for skilled operatives in many trades including Telehandler Operators. A recent Construction Skills Network report identifies “substantial recruitment and training challenges” in the industry. It forecasts an extra 251,500 construction workers will be needed by 2028 to meet the expected levels of work.
  • Can I pay in installments?
Yes, most of our customers prefer spreading the cost. You can pay the deposit, which will give you instant access to our learning portal so you can start learning immediately while making your payments. Please note that you must complete your final payment before booking the in-person five-day practical course.
  • How does the course work?
The Telehandler training course is a five-day program. Monday typically covers your Telehandler theory, with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday focusing on practical training, usually spent operating the machine. Assessments take place on the final day.
  • Will I get a license at the end?
Yes, upon completion of the course, you will receive your CPCS Telehandler license, which is a legal requirement for most related jobs in the United Kingdom.
  • What is the salary like?
A Telehandler operator working independently can expect to earn around £180 a day on average.
  • What are the entry requirements?
The only entry requirement is a good level of spoken English. You do not need any previous experience or time on site to enter this course.
